On March 18, 2016, Colorado State University Montezuma and Dolores County Extension partnered with the Southwestern Colorado Research Center to invite agricultural science experts, John Holman, Kevin Larsen and David Nielson to speak in the Soil and Crop Management for Sustainable Farming in the Four Corners Region Workshop. As part of the Four Corners Ag Expo, the workshop was held in the Ag Summit Room at the Montezuma Fairgrounds. Abdel Berrada from CSU’s Southwestern Colorado Research Center presented the latest updates on the Dryland Cover Crops Project followed by Akron USDA’s David Nielson’s presentation on Dryland Farming and Soil Moisture Management. Kevin Larsen from CSU’s Plainsman Research Center discussed cover cropping practices and challenges in Central Colorado. From Kansas State University, John Holman continued the discussion of cover crops research in the Great Central Plains region. The workshop ended with a panel discussion comprised of Western SARE Dryland Cover Crops members and the guest speakers. Workshop participants questioned and gathered information from each panel participant. The event was covered by Cortez Journal.
